Leaving your dog for the first time is harder on owners than it is on most dogs. With a little preparation, you can set your dog up for a smooth, stress-free stay. Here are five things we recommend before every first boarding appointment.

1. Schedule a meet and greet. We require this before every first stay, and it's genuinely valuable. It gives your dog a chance to sniff around the facility, meet the staff, and get comfortable before the real stay begins. It also gives us a chance to learn your dog's routine, quirks, and preferences.

2. Bring their regular food. A sudden diet change combined with the stress of a new environment is a recipe for an upset stomach. Bring enough of your dog's regular food for the entire stay, portioned and labeled if possible.

3. Keep your goodbye short. Long, emotional goodbyes communicate anxiety to your dog. A calm, matter-of-fact exit is actually kinder — it signals that this is a normal, safe situation.

4. Leave a worn item of clothing. A t-shirt or pillowcase with your scent can be genuinely comforting for dogs that are anxious in new environments. It's a small thing that makes a real difference.

5. Make sure vaccinations are current. We require up-to-date vaccinations for all boarding guests. Bring documentation on your first visit. Standard boarding is $60/night with a 3-night minimum. Call or text 832-381-8150 to book.
